Peanut butter isn’t only tasty, but also handy for some other purposes. There is nothing more disgusting than that moment when you want to watch a DVD and you can’t because it is full of scratches. Your DVD player can’t handle it and you are left with no option than to leave it which will ruin your night. It is your interest to watch films specifically and it is not on Netflix. So, what is the next thing to do? Finding a different film to watch and throwing out the ruined DVD? No! It is possible to fix scratches on DVDs and CDs with some peanut butter.
Culinary blog Chow shared a very handy tip for all of you music and film admirers out there. They explain how you can close up a scratch through the use of peanut butter. Of course, the spread won’t make the scratch disappear completely. However, it will enable you to watch that film you desperately wanted to watch and that is all that matters isn’t it?
This is how it works
You only need to get out a jar of peanut butter. Ensure it is completely smooth as the smoother the better. Now, rub a layer of the spread onto the scratched part of the DVD. Let it stay there for about one minute to let it do its thing. Take a soft cloth or a tissue and wipe away the peanut butter.
Why does this work?
The reason this works is that the oil from the peanut butter is sticky and it temporarily fills the scratch up to the surface. This will stop the DVD from faltering and you will be able to properly watch the film without any annoying interruptions (from the DVD at least). It is not a permanent solution, though. Eventually, the scratch will return and you will have the same problem again. You can also use toothpaste or Vaseline for this particular trick.
