It is possible for you to use ice cubes for much more than just keeping your drink cool. It is not necessary that you are a meteorologist before realizing that we have been having an uncharacteristically hot summer this year. Therefore, if we are to judge by the empty freezers in the supermarkets, everybody wants to stock up on ice cubes. They are ideal for keeping the drink cool, but are you aware they can also be used for much more than that purpose?
We should always ensure we have some ice cubes in the freezer. In the following situations, they will come in incredibly handy for you.
Heating up rice usually results in a dry, crumbly mess. This culinary catastrophe is very easy to avoid, though, and all you need is a simple ice cube. Simply add an ice cube to the rice before you heat it up in the microwave. The ice cube works as a kind of steamer and this will ensure your rice stays moist.
Have you ever made an oil-based salad dressing? Then you will probably have come across the problem of a dressing that is a little too wet. It is very easy to fix, though. How could that be possible? Simply add an ice cube! Contrary to what you might think (won’t it just make it more watery?), the ice cube will rather help make the dressing thicker. The cold from the ice cube will make the oil become a little harder.
Imprints in the carpet
The carpet looks nice, but the imprints the furniture leaves behind are a little less nice to look at. You can make these imprints less prominent by rubbing an ice cube over the spot in question. Let the ice cube melt, rub the carpet and you will realize the imprint is a lot less visible.
Removing chewing gum
Has your child gotten chewing gum in their clothes (or did you have a clumsy moment yourself)? There is no need to immediately throw out these clothes. A few ice cubes can save the item of clothing in question. Simply place a couple of ice cubes on top of the chewing gum-affected area and leave them there. The low temperature will cause the chewing gum to be hard and with a bit of luck you can simply take it off after a little while. You could also simply put the item of clothing inside the freezer for a while.
One of the most annoying things in the world is getting a splinter. An ice cube can help soothe the affected skin at times like this. Sadly, an ice cube won’t make removing the splinter any easier. The cold will numb your skin a little, though, which means removing splinter will be a little less painful.
