Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships

The scholarship program is said to be available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents and international students.

The Scholarship program offers $40,000 every year for up to three years as education-related, and reasonable living expenses allowances; and $20,000 annually for up to three years as research and travel allowances. It also offers membership in a community of scholars, mentors, and fellows, all of whom are leaders and change-makers in their respective disciplines and sectors.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholars will:

  • Attend a community retreat in Moncton city, southeastern New Brunswick, from June 17th to June 19th, 2020 and two Institutes of Engaged Leadership during the first year of their term. The first Institute will take place in Montreal, Quebec province, in November 2020. The second Institute will be in Helsinki capital of Finland, in March 2021;
  • Collaboratively plan and participate in a conference event throughout the second year of their term;
  • Work with other Fellows, Scholars and Mentors on a creative project during the third year of their term.

The Foundation is committed to selecting a diverse group of Scholars, including in terms of gender, race, language, disabilities and region of origin.

To be eligible for Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Scholarships program, applicants must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, whether at a Canadian or an international institution.
  • Be a doctoral student already accepted into or in year one, two, or three of a full-time program in the Social Sciences or Humanities.
  • Or be a non-Canadian enrolled in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution.

The scholarship program is said to be opened on December 3 and each institution has its own internal deadline, but the official deadline for all institution is put at 22 February every year.
