It is a statement of fact that some insects love to settle in the carpet or rug. Now, do you suffer from mosquitoes, ants or fruit flies in the house? We prefer not to share our homes with insects, and we opt for different kinds of remedies to get small pests out the door as quickly as possible. Sadly, pests can also settle in your carpet or rug where they are more difficult to locate. These are the types you can encounter on the floor, and this is how you get rid of them.
We are all aware that moths stay in our wardrobes: the infamous moth. These dusty critters usually enjoy staying in dark places to lay their eggs and love to eat carpets. So, you will always find them on the carpet under the sofa or other furniture. It is therefore extremely necessary to always vacuum the areas under your furniture. By this way, you will easily suck up the eggs before they can hatch. Also, you can spray a mixture of lavender oil and water on your carpet. It actually smells good to us, but moths stay away from such smell. Is it already too late? If so, just spray your carpet with a moth repellant and vacuum your carpet thoroughly. Then you can immediately change the vacuum cleaner bag and put the old bag out the door before the new eggs hatch in it.
Carpet beetle is a tiny beast that can wreak havoc on furniture and woolen carpets. Again, vacuuming regularly can prevent this pest. In case it is possible, kindly wash the rugs every now and then, according to the instructions on the care label. Carpet beetles are also attracted to old bird nests and dead animals. Therefore, check your roof and gutters always and remove any nests or dead birds you find. Although, carpet beetles can’t survive a carpet wash when the water temperature is greater than 60 degrees, and can also be controlled by using boric acid.
Ants are creepy bugs that can also penetrate the house. Mop spilled food immediately to avoid your floors becoming attractive to ants. On a positive note, ants can be often traced back to their nest. Do you find out there is a hole in the ground with loose soil or sand around it? Pour a lot of boiling water into this hole, or use a pesticide if necessary.
Fleas are almost inevitable when there is a pet running around the house. You will often find these insects where your dogs or cat regularly sleeps. Therefore, always vacuum these places very often. Regularly check your pet for fleas. You can also make anti-flea remedy by yourself with dish soap or apple cider vinegar. This will avoid the pests from settling in your carpet.
