There are few remedies that can help you reduce or even get rid of calluses. Although calluses on your hands do no harm or hurt, most of us dislike them. If you wish to get rid of them, follow these tips for an effective solution.

Warm Water

There is no need to reach for the big guns right away. Soaking your hands in warm water for 20 minutes can be all you need to do sometimes. After soaking, dry your hands and see if you can gently rub off the callus. The warm water will make your skin soft and this is enough sometimes. It might sound very simple to do, but it is the best remedy you should try first, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The acidic content in apple cider vinegar can soften the hard skin of callus. You should make a solution of four parts warm water and one-part apple cider vinegar and then soak your hand in it for 20 minutes. Then dry your hands and endeavor to rub the callus away, or pull it off. However, only pull the callus if it is loose. Don’t tinker with it if it doesn’t come away freely, otherwise a skin infection can develop?

Castor oil

You can use castor oil to get rid of your callus. It can be simply bought at the pharmacy store. The oil possesses properties that are effective in softening the callus on your hands, so you can rub the callus away. This works effectively if you soak your hands in a solution of warm water and five tablespoons of castor oil. According to studies, castor oil soothes the skin around the callus.

Pumice Stone

A pumice stone is mostly used for calluses on the feet or the elbows; however, it can also be used for hands too. In this situation, you will only need to use a smaller pumice stone. Firstly soak the callus in warm water then rub the callus area in circular movements with the pumice stone. Meanwhile, don’t do this for too long: it is best done in multiple stages to make sure you don’t damage the skin around the calluses too much.

Since the callus on the hands could be a difficult thing to treat with the use of pumice stone, you can also use very fine sandpaper. Again, it is necessary to first soak your hands in water, don’t rub with sandpaper for a long period of time. It is much better for the skin to do this lightly several times. If you try to sand it off in one go, you are likely to damage your skin.

Tea tree oil

Several people refer to tea tree oil as a miracle cure: it is antibacterial, anti-fungal and a natural antiseptic. You can also soak your hands in this oil to get rid of a callus. The process to do this include: fill a container with warm water and add a few drops of tea tree oil, soak your hands in the water for 15 minutes. Don’t do it for a long period because the oil can harm the skin. After soaking, gently rub away some of the callus.

Baking soda and lemon juice

Finally, it is possible to make your own remedy to loosen callus more easily. You can simply do this by mixing lemon juice with baking soda. Lemon juice contains acidic components and the chemical component in baking soda will enhance the combination. First, mix a few tablespoons of lemon juice with warm water and soak your hands in this. After a few minutes, add the baking soda and soak your hands in the water for a while. Then try to gently rub the callus off.
