With a little luck, there is possibility to still have and keep silky smooth feet. During the summer months, we all desire to wear sandals, or go bare feet. Our feet have taken us from A to B all our lives, so it makes sense that our feet need the necessary care every now and then. We often forget this and only do it once a year just before the summer starts and when the slippers and sandals are pulled out of the closet. Are you about to get your feet summer ready? Then this is the best way to make your feet silky smooth and to get rid of calluses.

How does a callus develop on your feet?

In order to get silky smooth feet, it is good to know exactly how calluses happen. A callus is usually a localized thickening of the stratum corneum of the skin. The stratum corneum is the top layer of skin that contains dead skin cells of the epidermis. Everyone has a thin layer of callus on their hands and feet, and there is nothing bad about it. But do you have thicker callus? If yes, then this can cause pain. Calluses happen when underlying skin protects itself when there is friction or pressure. This protection results from an accumulation of new and dying skin cells, which is known as the callus layer of the skin.

 Wearing the wrong shoes

A major cause of friction and pressure on the skin is wearing the wrong shoes. For example, wearing shoes that are too big or have had a hard or thin sole can lead to calluses on the feet quite quickly. Slippers, where you slide the heels along the edges, also increase the risk of calluses. Just like the general saying, prevention is always better than cure; therefore you should ensure you are wearing good footwear, and then start to get rid of calluses on your feet.

What do you need?

You don’t need to buy a large assortment of foot care products. You probably already have the requirement at home. Take a look in your kitchen and refrigerator and take out the following: a liter of milk and baking soda. Yes, that is all you need!

This is what you do

You firstly need to warm up the milk a little, but also ensure that it doesn’t get too hot. The milk should be at a comfortable temperature for your feet. Now put the warm milk in a large container and let your feet soak for a quarter of an hour. The acid in the milk makes it easier for the dead skin cells that cause calluses to come off.

When you have soaked your feet in the milk, the skin on your feet will be soft. Now, with your feet still damp, take some soda and massage the feet with it. In this way, you ‘scrub’ your feet, as it were. When you are done exfoliating the skin, let the soda sit for another ten minutes. Then you can now rinse and dry your feet. You can repeat this process twice a week and the result will be amazing. You will have wonderfully soft feet!
