Sky Q Updates Hundreds Of Hours Of Special Offers For The First Time

Sky has partnered with BBC Studios to bring hundreds of hours of classic comedy and drama shows to the leading satellite service.

The company has entered deep into the archives of the BBC and has brought smörgåsbord from the famous television to the library of its collections on demand. This includes comedy films such as Vicar of Dibley, Only Fools and Horses, as well as more recent dramas such as McMafia and Spooks, which are still accessible through the BBC iPlayer catch-up service, accessible directly from the Sky Q menu.

After this initial selection on Sky Q next month, Sky promised to keep the library updated with more content from the depths of the BBC archive, including QI, Top Gear, The Last Post, Father Brown, Brian Cox’s Wonder, The League of Gentlemen, Ashes among other things.

The selection of content seems remarkably similar to what you find on BritBox – the Netflix-style broadcast service created by the BBC and ITV to deliver a mix of classic and modern offerings to a new audience in the United States and Canada. BritBox is expected to launch in the UK sometime this year with a selection of fund groups that are no longer available in catch-up services such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub.

In addition to these BBC comedy and classic graphics, you can expect a new range of Ultra HD content to come into Sky Q boxes next month. Sky has already confirmed that you can expect to see the premiere of Ultra HD, including Mamma Mia! Here we go again, teen titans back! To Movies, Alpha, The Equalizerand Unriended: Dark Web.

Sky said the Chinese and Azerbaijani Grand Prix will also be broadcast in high-definition format in April.
