How To Get Microsoft Word For Free

A common misconception is that Windows comes complete with Microsoft Office for each user. However, there are ways to get Office on Windows 10 for free, including Word and Plus on iOS and Android.

If you have a new PC, laptop, or tablet and want Microsoft Office, there are ways to get it for free (although some restrictions apply and we’ll explain the add-ons and external) and we’ll show you how. Also, there are many free alternative office suites that are compatible with the Microsoft version.

On September 24, 2018, Microsoft announced a new version of Office, including new Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more. Office 2019 is now available from Microsoft for £ 249.99 / US $ 249.99 as a one-time purchase as an alternative to its cloud option Office 365. Learn more about Office 2019 here.

Download the free Office apps for iOS, Android, and Windows

In a shift toward cloud adoption, Microsoft’s current Office strategy means that you can download mobile applications for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for free on a wide range of devices, including Android and iOS as part of the Office Online option. You can download these apps for iOS, Android, and Windows 10 using the links below.

IOS apps

• Word for iOS

• Excel for iOS

• PowerPoint for iOS

Android applications

• Word for Android

• Excel for Android

• PowerPoint for Android devices

Windows applications

• Word 10

• Excel for Windows 10

• PowerPoint for Windows 10

Although these devices are free for any device, they simply do not allow you full access to all functions, while retaining the full functionality of Office 365 users. See the complete Microsoft Office Purchasing Guide.

You’ll always be able to open and read documents for free, but you can only create and edit them for free on a monitor smaller than 10.1 inches. This means that you can edit Word documents from a smartphone or a small tablet, but if you’re using a tablet, a laptop, or a larger desktop computer, you can view it only.

On iOS, the distinction is at least simple: You can create and edit documents for free on any iPhone, iPad, iPad, or Mini, but iPad Pro users can only view files.

Even on a smaller monitor, you can only get what Microsoft calls a ‘basic’ office experience, with some editing tools and disabled features from crazy users.

Try Office 365 for free

Of course, the ability to view documents on their own is not very useful, so anyone on a computer, laptop, or tablet with a screen larger than 10.1 percent wants something more.

The easiest option is to only sign up for Office 365, the Microsoft cloud-based subscription service, which costs £ 5.99 / month for a personal account. It provides the same applications as above, but simply opens its full set of features to any device, while providing your work in the cloud so that you can access it wherever you are. You can also access programs such as Exchange Online and SharePoint Online.

The good news is that there is a one-month free trial of Office 365 so you can try it for free without paying a single fils.

Get Microsoft Teams Free

If you often collaborate with other people, you can also sign up for Microsoft Teams for free, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote Online. The teams let you chat, share files, and start video calls from within the platform. There are premium plans starting from £ 3.80 per month per user.

Get Office 365 Education for free

Teachers and students can get Office 365 Education for free, which includes Office Online (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote), and Microsoft Teams, as well as unlimited personal cloud storage.

Microsoft use home discount program

Although it is not completely free, you can save 30% of your Office 365 subscription through your employer through the Microsoft Home Use program either to subscribe to 365 Home or 365 Personal.

You’ll need to verify your eligibility by entering your company’s email address. If your employer is eligible, you will receive a verification link via email to authenticate your Microsoft account, which provides access to a 30% discount. Find out if you qualify here.
